In June 2022, friends, alumni and colleagues of former MBI Director Arnold J Berk gathered for a symposium to honor his legacy of leadership, research and teaching the next generation of scientist. In a series of in-person and video presentations, Professor Berk’s colleagues shared memories of his impact on them as a collaborator, co-author, mentor and advisor. The presenters spoke of Arnie’s sharp wit, commitment to scientific discovery, dedictation to the members of his lab and to the greater scienctific community. 

In conjunction with the symposium, a new fund was established, with contributions from Arnie’s colleagues and lab alumni, to support graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. “Arnold J Berk Research Achievement Awards” are made each year to researchers who demonstrate originality and creativity, in addition to publishing high quality papers.
